Abstract

The case concerned a citizen of Tunisia who recently arrived in Italy and requested to apply for international protection. His request was rejected by the Territorial Commission as manifestly unfounded as Tunisia is considered a safe country of origin. The applicant appealed and requested the suspension of the decision.

The Tribunal of Bologna, after examination of the most recent and up to date COI, considered that the situation in Tunisia is currently one of instability and is constantly evolving, due to the decision of the president to freeze the Parliament and dismiss the government. The situation is very tense, with violent protests in the capital and the deployment of the army. Therefore, the Tribunal ruled to suspend the decision of the Territorial Commission as it did not deem Tunisia as a safe country of origin for the time being.
